WHAT ARE LANGUAGE LEARNING STRATEGIES?

Dear Students,
                   

                       I’m sure you might be wondering what learning strategies are. Do you really know how to study a second language and make the best of your language class? In simple words, language learning strategies are things you can do (or a series of steps or helpful tips you can follow) in order to improve your knowledge and understanding of a second language and be able to learn better in a language course. Strategies facilitate your learning process and make it fun as well! There are many strategies you can use depending on the task you’re given; you can even use specific strategies to improve your listening or reading language skills. You can use them to improve your memory or even control your emotions while you are learning.

 

During this course, you will…

• Learn about Rebbeca Oxford’s classification of Language Learning Strategies  (Memory,Cognitive,Compensation, Metacognitive, Affective and Social Strategies)
• Use strategies to improve your receptive skills (listening/reading)
• Use strategies to improve your productive skills (writing/speaking)
• Use strategies to improve your memory while learning new vocabulary
• Identify strategies that will allow you to control your emotions and feel at ease while you study
• Be able to organize and plan your own learning process
